Question by Hannah: i’m taking my dog on a 6 hour car ride for the first time… help…?
okay, my dog is 3 years old, and the longest car ride she’s ever been on is 3 hours from the breeder, home. but she likes car rides now. we’ve been taking her to the pet store, my friends houses, hiking trails, her friend cloie’s (yes i spelled it right) house, and the dog park. but i’m still nervous.

the car ride is 6 hours, through mountains, and she’s going to meet my family (who lives in another state) my aunts dog, and my other aunts 2 cats. i know she’ll like it, and the car ride back will be easier than the car ride there.

pleas dont say we should just leave her home. we’ll be there all weekend and she has separation anxiety. usually when we go on trips like this, we leave her with her friend cloie, and thats the only time she’s fine. but cloie is getting fixed this weekend, and having another dog around would just be abd. and the local kennel is full. we thought it’d just be easier.

what should i bring with us? we have a mazda cx 9 . the third row seats will be down to make the trunk larger for the luggage, so the only place she can stay is either up front in front of the passenger side. (which stresses her out because she likes to stick her head out the window, and she likes to see the cars, and see where we’re going)

or in the back seat. (probabloy back seat) she’s 17 pounds…. umm… what do i bring? how do i set it up for her to be comfy? (she doesnt need a carrier, she has a play pen sort of thing, that sections off a piece of the floor of the car and a seat just for her. she also pretty much just lies down during car rides, but she might start getting scared cause its so long…

i know i need-
plenty of bathroom breaks
food and water breaks
her blankets in the back
her bed in the back
her pillows and stuffed animals i put in her bed
her favorite toys

anything else? we made sure to put flea and tick stuff on her.

oh, and how do i calm her if she gets nervous?
i REALLY want to stress. HOW DO I CALM HER DOWN IF SHE GETS NERVOUS???
oh, and i have her leash and collar (duh)

all the stuff on your list is perfect and you’ll probably have a wonderful car ride. But IF she gets nervous just stop the car, take a bathroom break and just let her relax in the fresh air. Maybe even give her some water. That will most likely help her.

We have a pet dog(9 months old shih tzu), and we will be leaving on a trip for 30 days. Is it ok to take our pet to other country(India) with us or is it better to leave our littile darling in a pet hostel.It’s very difficult for us to leave her alone(she is very much attached to us as we are to her.We are worried that she would miss us and stop eating or get ill health due to the separation anxiety if we checked her into a pet hostel for 30 days), but we are more concerned about her health and safety.
During october-november time that we would be in India the weather is not hot or humid.we are planning to keep her in our house premises along with us.Any one can tell us if is it ok to take our pet to India from USA. If we take her with us we are planning to take her in the cabin.Is it ok for her if she stay’s 30 days there in India???
We don’t know what we can do with her when we are gone, What solution is best for her?

Since the dog must clear customs, I would recommend checking their web sight on rules for animals. She may need certain shots or to be quarantined upon returning. Likewise you need to find out what India requires on their side…such as proof of vaccinations, etc.
