    Roof Operations: Power Saw Safety

Brotherhood Instructors, LLC’s Chris Collier demonstrates safe fireground tactics and procedures while utilizing a power saw. One of our biggest pet peeves of common power saw operations is the firefighter that stands upright between cuts while “gunning” the saw. “Gunning the Saw” is a downright dangerous practice that CAN and WILL cause an injury. If you have to “gun” the saw to keep it running, you should have taken the saw out of service at the morning rig check! The techniques shown here FORCE the blade to stop between cuts. It also is less fatiguing if a long-duration roof operation is required (taxpayer, commercial, top-floor multiple dwelling) since the weight of the saw is rested on the roof and not on our backs. These techniques must be made habit while training so they become second nature on the fireground.

Question by silver wings: Tick removal: fror my safety should I avoid petting my cat after removing a tick if head is still in skin?
I removed a tick with tweezers, tried my best to get it all out but to my amazement it was so strongly attached that I thought I was going to hurt my kitty, so the head remained stuck in the skin. I applied antibiotic ointment to the area, should I avoid touching the area, can I get lyme?

I was raised in the country and there is one sure way to get a tick out, strike a match then blow it out while it is still hot stick it to the ticks butt , trust me he will back out every time.

Question by -Anonymous-: Safety measures for letting my rabbits out in the summer?
Hello, i have four pet bunnies and live in Washington. All are healthy and young. I have a flat, grassy yard that is fenced. I was wondering about letting them out to play in the summer, i would be keeping a watchful eye on them.

My main concern is parasites and temperature. Is there a rabbit flea medication i could use? Any advice or info/ experience you may have on this topic would be very helpful, thank you.

I think that maximum meds you could use on a rabbits for fleas and mites are the ones in the rodent pet section for rats and mice and hamsters. Dog or cat flea meds would kill a rabbit.

The bigger concern is hawks swooping them up from above or raccoons killing them. No amoutn of watching them is quick enough for a hawk. Your best bet is to build them a pen with netting over the top to keep birds out. If you leave them out overnight you need a double barrier around the pen to keep raccoons from reaching in because they will rip the heads off rabbits trying to pull them through the fence.
